Mahrtenland is a lightly modded, monster girl-themed 1.18.2 survival server centered around the mod Grimoire of Gaia. The aim is to keep the experience very close to vanilla gameplay, with only a small number of gameplay mods to give the player more ways to resist the onslaught of the rather ferocious hostile GoG mobs: new, more powerful weapons, the ability to gain more hearts by cooking and eating diverse meals, and Roots Classic for magic. We're pirate-friendly.
The server's founding stock of players came mostly from Krautchan /int/, 8chan /monster/ and the GoG Discord, and the server's culture and tone reflects this background.
There's a vestigial tradition of nationplay RP, but because of the few regular players, it survives only in the lore and aesthetic flavour of some settlements (which tends towards medieval and early modern).
The server used to have a wiki for this, but due to security risks and maintenance burden, it was removed in favour of static HTML pages. You can submit writings and screenshots to the administrator if you want them to be added there.
Online map
The online map uses Papyri to generate a map from in-game, player-created map items. It therefore has varying levels of detail and may be incomplete or out-of-date.
(This choice was made to incentivise continued in-game exploration.)
Use common sense. Don't grief, don't shitbuild, don't bother players who want to be left alone.
Special the admin's autistic pet peeve rule: no building floating platforms on the ocean. Use the End for map-pictures.
stuff about Simple Login
This server uses Open Parties and Claims to enable players to protect their chunks against griefing. (However, we expect players to always treat others' builds with respect, protected or not.)
You can claim an unclaimed chunk by standing in it and typing /openpac-claims claim or pressing OpenPAC's menu key (by default: [']) and clicking the "Claim" button.
Unclaiming a chunk works the same way: /openpac-claims unclaim or the "Unclaim" button in the menu.
The mod integrates with both Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map, which are not included in the modpack but may be separately installed. It displays claimed chunks on the map and allows you to select and claim/unclaim multiple nearby chunks at once.
Open Parties and Claims has many, many configuration options. You can change the title and colour that gets displayed when a player enters your domain and set fine-grained permissions for what other players can and cannot interact with (e.g. doors, redstone, storage, mobs). The server's default permissions are extremely strict in order to prevent any kinds of griefing, I recommend relaxing them a little to be better able to welcome guests and visitors.
Unfortunately, dying in another player's claimed chunk may mean that you cannot open your death chest, because it's protected by the claim. If that happens to you, please contact the administrator.
The map was originally generated on 1.12.2. It was eventually upgraded first to 1.16.2, then to 1.18.2. In the process, I deleted and re-generated a couple of mostly-empty regions and individual chunks in order to get a few newer world generation features within the old world borders, like pillager outposts and coral reefs, and in order to smoothen the transition to post-Caves-and-Cliffs worldgen. The resulting Frankenstein map has a few quirks, such as Ender Eyes pointing to End Portals that don't exist, or broken chunk lighting here and there.
Generally, the world will look like 1.12.2 with a few anachronistic intrusions, and transition to modern 1.18.2 worldgen the farther you travel away from the spawn.
